Sustainable Agriculture

Cultivating a future of resilience, growth, and opportunity

Why Sustainable Agriculture Matters

Sustainable agriculture ensures that communities have consistent access to nutritious food while protecting the land for future generations. At Start the Ripple, we use environmentally friendly practices that nourish the soil, diversify crops, and support the school and community. Food security, income generation, and environmental stewardship are all connected, and agriculture is at the heart of building a sustainable future.

Our Impact So Far

  • Maintained over 300 coffee plants to support the school financially.

  • Grew matooke and cassava for staff, students, and community members, with cassava supplementing school meals.

  • Allotted portions of land for staff and community members to grow their own crops.

  • Practiced intercropping and seasonal planting to maintain soil nutrients and maximize yield.

  • Used organic fertilization through pig manure and composted food scraps to enrich the soil.

Our Vision Moving Forward

  • Expand coffee planting to 5,000+ plants intercropped with matooke for school self-sustainability.

  • Explore the addition of an apiary to support crop pollination and produce honey.

  • Continue to use sustainable, organic farming methods that involve and benefit the community.
